Horses For Heroes
Our Horses for Heroes Programs provide week-long intensive therapeutic sessions for primarily newly disabled soldiers from Iraq, Afghanistan and other conflicts. These demanding, concentrated and rigorous programs help soldiers realize their strengths, better understand themselves and give new and special meaning to their lives.
Last summer Sopris Therapy provided services to 45 veteran and active duty service personal. We provide these week-long programs at no charge to our “Wounded Warriors”. We provide everything for the entire week except air transportation and lodging (Our partner, Challenge Aspen, provides these services). All meals (including a big cook-out at the Carbondale Rodeo) and therapeutic services are provided at no charge.
“This has been the best week of my life!”

“I never thought I would have the feeling of walking again. Montana (my horse) gave me a new set of legs and helped me realize my dream. We “walked” for hours in an arena and through the woods and I will never forget that experience. It gave me the determination to continue my life and work hard to be the best person I can be. I suffer from PTSD and depression. I have not been depressed since your program and my episodes of PTSD are less frequent. Thank you, Montana, and Sopris Therapy for saving my life.”
